Duties and Responsibilities:

Scope of Work: Under the direct responsibility of the Regional Digital Hub Manager, the Country Coordinator in Ethiopia will oversee the expansion & implementation of activities leveraging innovation and technology in Ethiopia. S/he will specifically:

  • Advance UNCDF’s various initiatives and strategy in Ethiopia by engaging and discussing with donors, partners, and industry stakeholders while securing buy in on UNCDF works in the country.
  • Develop and update the country annual strategy, workplan and budget and monitor and update quarterly progress using the country logbook;
  • Support and coordinate the team in Ethiopia with various skills (digital, finance, energy, agriculture, etc.) and from diverse backgrounds;
  • Support the expansion and development of UNCDF project portfolio with a focus on key segments (low-income people, women, youth, migrants, forcibly displaced people, low skilled workers, and MSMEs) and key sectors (fintech, AgriTech, HealthTech, EdTech, ClimateTech).
  • Support the supervision and coordination of the project portfolio designed to fulfil the IDE mission of “Leaving no one behind in the digital era.”
  • Coordinate monthly progress calls with all Project Leads in Ethiopia, preparing agendas, leading calls, updating plans and logs, facilitating contacts, and/or organising visits to Ethiopia;
  • Support and coordinate with colleagues from other areas such as results measurement, research & learning, country and project field visits, communications, and knowledge/information sharing, and others as may be needed.
  • Provide technical support and advisory services to UNCDF operations team, which manages local finance, procurement and administration management of office space, equipment and transportation services;
  • Coordinate with global technical sector/segment/functional leads (e.g., gender, energy, youth, policy, donor relations) where relevant to ensure UNCDF’s interventions are in line with policy and market development trends.
  • Build strong relationship will project implementing partners and other sector stakeholders in Ethiopia to facilitate the implementation of UNCDF’s initiatives and ensure their sustainability while building the portfolio of UNCDF in the country.
  • Proactively build relationships with funders at country, regional and global levels to mobilize additional resources for existing and new programming.
  • Proactively seek ways to leverage partnerships with financial, communication and other regulatory authorities, government ministries, service providers in various sectors (Finance, digital, energy, agriculture, etc.), and other local stakeholders to support UNCDF’s various initiatives.

Qualification:

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in progressively more responsible positions in the financial services, telecommunications field and or digital field;
  • At least four years’ experience in digital services and solutions. Experience in Africa region and Ethiopia is an advantage;
  • Proven expertise in working with multi-million-dollar initiatives for results, in digital and innovation.
