UNECA Job Vacancy 2023

Duties and Responsibilities: The Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Expert will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the implementation of the Africa Programme on Accelerated Improvement of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (APAI-CRVS) and CRVS Mentorship Programme in the Lusophone Countries.
  • Establish relationships and collaborate with senior government officials to develop country-owned work plans on CRVS Improvement
  • Work with government counterparts and national consultants to identify priority intervention areas and interventions; define scopes of work; and develop detailed budgeted work plans that identify priority activities and results needed to maximize local impact
  • Develop a feasible implementation schedule for project completion and determine deadline for key project milestones and deliverables
  • Manage the implementation of activities in a way that promotes country ownership and leadership, leads to the institutionalization of CRVS system improvements, and builds local capacity
  • Intergovernmental support
  • Provides support for the participartion of Lusophone Countries into intergovernmental bodies mainly the Conference of Ministers responsible for Civil Registration.
  • Follows on the implementation of the resolutions and recommendations of the intergovernmental bodies by Lusophone Countries.
  • Assists in the organization of panels, round tables etc by identifying speakers, panelists etc from Lusophone countries. on development issues for intergovernmental processes
  • Participates in missions on CRVS systems strengthening issues, usually as a member of a team.
  • Organizes training seminars for national experts on CRVS improvement systems.
  • Prepares documentation for technical cooperation CRVS programmes and projects.
  • Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects.
  • Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work Section’s services on CRVS. Provides leadership and work direction to assigned work teams, and/or mentors and supervises the work of new/junior officers/ fellows or interns.
  • Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally to keep pace with developments in the area of CRVS.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in working in a Civil Registry Office in Africa would be an advantage.
