The UNEP has published a job vacancy announcement on 09th August 2024 for qualified Kenya’s to fill in the vacant post of Senior Programme Management Officer to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations System and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The position will work closely at the science-policy interface with other UN agencies, including the UN Food Systems Hub, UN Country Teams and external partners to support sustainable, nature positive food system transformation. The position will support alignment of food systems transformation work leveraging Multi-lateral Environment Agreements and specifically country level work to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The position will lead design and coordination of UNEP’s environment dimensions of food systems portfolio in coordination with other Divisions to strengthen food systems positive contributions to halting the triple planetary crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution. This post is in the Biodiversity & Land Branch of the Ecosystems Division at the Nairobi duty station.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

• Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in food systems, agricultural development and/or policy or a related field is required.
• A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
• Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience:

• A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in international project or programme management related to integrated food, agriculture and environmental aspects is required.
• A minimum of five years of experience managing diverse and multi-sectoral teams is required.
• Experience working with multilateral agreements and/or international policy relevant to environment, including nature and biodiversity aspects, and food systems is desirable.
• Work experience in multi-disciplinary and systemic aspects of integrated sustainable development goals with a focus on food systems, sustainable livelihoods, and environment is desirable.
• Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages:

• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Working Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
• NOTE: ”Fluency” equals a rating of ”fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ”Knowledge of” equals a rating of ”confident” in two of the four area.
