Rainforest Alliance Job Vacancy 2021

Responsibilities:

  • Be a point of contact for tea farmers and stakeholders in Kenya & Tanzania, attend to technical questions on the Rainforest Alliance certification program;
  • Be a point of reference for Rainforest Alliance colleagues in provision of technical inputs related to certification of tea and other crops and related topics such as risk assessment, IPM and Key Themes e.g. Work and Human rights, Living Wage, Living Income, Regenerative Climate Smart Agriculture etc.;
  • Lead and enable training of trainers including Associated Trainer Network (ATN), develop training materials in coordination with Training Manager Africa, promote Rainforest Alliance training tools, including the Rainforest Alliance Learning Network platform (RALN) and monitor the use of the training tools and platforms(s);
  • Working in collaboration with Standard and Assurance, detect and assess systematic compliance challenges and training needs for farmers in order to assist Rainforest Alliance to proactively mitigate risks and continuously improve certification programme;
  • Support innovation and improvement for certification by gathering and sharing feedback from farmers on their experience of the program, facilitate studies e.g. impact studies, surveys and processes required for further development and improvement of the certification program, including stakeholder outreach for tea platforms and companies, discussion groups, public consultation rounds, conferences, roundtables, company field visits, program trouble shooting etc.;

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy or agricultural based degree, rural development, natural resource management, environmental studies or related field, a Master’s Degree is a plus.

Experience

  • 7+ years of relevant field experience, with a minimum of 4 years’ work experience in Sustainable Agriculture Practices;
  • Knowledge in Sustainable Agriculture Standard, the Rainforest Alliance Certification Program or a similar voluntary sustainability standard and commitment to environmental issues and sustainability practices desirable;
  • Good understanding of Tea value chain and other export crops, preferably with 2+ years’ experience working with private companies;
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook and working knowledge of PowerPoint;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication in English and Kiswahili coupled with experience /certification in Training of Trainers (ToT) experiential training methodology;
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external stakeholders;
  • 2+ years’ experience with a reputable not-for-profit and or international CSO environment;
  • Project management and fundraising experience is an added advantage.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 30% per year, nationally and internationally.
