The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2024

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with partners, stakeholders and UN-Habitat staff to facilitate the development, and implementation of key sessions and activities of the 12th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) including Assemblies, round tables, special sessions and dialogues; monitors and analyzes specific aspects of WUF12 development and implementation, especially stakeholder engagement and partnerships; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Carries out partner intelligence and basic research on selected aspects of the WUF 12 programmes, operations, and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing, and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources and events.
  • Provides substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
  • Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the stakeholder focal points, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
  • Participates in survey initiatives on the World Urban Forum; assists with design of data collection tools; issues data collection tools, reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues, and prepares preliminary conclusions.
  • Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.

Qualification:

  • A first-level university degree i Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Experience:

  • A minimum work experience of two (2) years in project/programme management, administration, or related area is required. Experience working in a multicultural environment and establishing working partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders is required.
  • Experience in developing strategic partnerships with a broad cross-section of actors from within the United Nations system, as well as Member States and civil society is desirable.
  • Experience in preparing reports to intergovernmental bodies or Executive Boards is desirable.
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is also desirable. NOTE: “fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
