The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2023

Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Human Resources Assistant will coordinate various actions related to the administration of the Organization’s human resource activities, e.g recruitment, placement, promotion, re-location, performance appraisal, job classification reviews, separation of staff members, training, ensuring consistency in the application of UN Rules and procedures – as such is responsible for the following duties:

  • Initiates, reviews, processes and follows-up on actions related to the administration of the Organization’s human resources activities.
  • Reviews and processes personnel actions through Umoja.
  • Monitors due dates for staff contract extensions/separations and initiates for processing electronically and for completion by reviewing and processing personnel actions.
  • Assists in reviewing requests for classification for the Agency and provides advice and answers general queries on classification procedures and processes.

Qualification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Post secondary diploma in Administration, human resources or related field.

Experience:

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administrative services or related area is required.
  • A thorough knowledge of UMOJA application is desirable.
  • Knowledge of United Nations policies and staff rules and regulations in the area of Human Resources and Post Management is regarded is desirable.
  • 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
