The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2023

Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance in support of planning and implementation activities/processes of the programme.
  • Research, compile, analyse, summarise, and present basic information/data on specific programmes/project and related topics.
  • Assist in the coordination of project planning and preparation; monitors status of project proposals; takes necessary action to ensure project documents are completed and submitted to relevant parties for approval.
  • Focal point for coordination of program implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with different units on follow ups, and backstop country office when need be.
  • Review project documents for completeness and compliance with relevant rules and procedures and identify inconsistencies prior submission for final approval.
  • Prepare budget revisions verify funds availability; and ensures necessary approval and entry in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Umoja system. Compile, summarise and enter data on project delivery, identify shortfalls in delivery, deviations, budget overruns, etc., and bring it to the attention of management.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplementary training in business administration, project/programme administration, international relations or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive work experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation, supplementary courses or training in Business Administration, or other related field is required.
  • Working experience with the UN system or other international organization is required.
  • Experience working with the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, preferably SAP, is desirable.
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
