The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2023

Responsibilities:

The Project Analyst will work under the supervision of the Chief of Planning Finance and Economy Section, and under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer at the Planning Finance and Economy Section.

The Analyst will focus on the areas of planning, finance and economy, with a global portfolio and supporting operations in HQ and with the Regional and Country Offices of UN-Habitat.

The duties of the Project Analyst will include the following:

  • Contribute to the Portfolio development, resource mobilization, identification, conceptualization and follow-up of programme and project opportunities
  • Identification of partners and market research activities in the different sectoral areas of sustainable urban development, territorial and urban planning, climate adaptation and mitigation, project finance, digital transformation, energy, housing,
  • Preparation of programme and project documents, bidding documents and terms of reference
  • Participate as a team member in the technical and analytical activities related to the preparation of reports, policy notes, activities, programmes and projects for technical assistance
  • Development of methodologies and tools in the areas of urban development, urban economy and project finance
  • Participate with the teams in operational missions, supporting the identification, preparation implementation of programmes and projects
  • Participate in the development of partnerships between UN-Habitat and the private sector
  • Provide analytical support in the preparation of any presentations, documentation, proposals, notes, and any other material that might be required for the dissemination of the unit activities or strategies.

Qualification:

  • University degree in International Cooperation, Economy, Finance, Business Administration, Urban Development, Urban Planning, Architecture or related field that is relevant for sustainable urban development and planning, finance and economy is required

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban economics and/or local economic development is required;
  • Experience of working on issues of urban economy is an asset;
  • Understanding of and experience from managing urban data is an asset;
  • Experience working in/for the public sector in developing countries, e.g. local governments is considered an asset

Languages:

Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian will be considered an advantage.
