Duties And Responsibilities:

Under the overall the overall supervision of the Chief of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section and the day-to-day supervision of the Head of the Urban Lab, the Consultant will provide technical input to ensure sound UPMIC & EUTF project coordination for the duration of the projects, in collaboration with the UN-Habitat Regional Offices and with UN-Habitat’s thematic Sections. They will interact with certain stakeholders of the Programme on behalf of UN-Habitat and therefore he/she will be appointed on the basis of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. As a UN consultant, they are expected to exhibit and adhere to the highest standards of ethical conduct. They will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide senior technical advice with relevant team members across UN-Habitat to provide technical inputs and ensure delivery of all outputs for the EUTF and UPIMC Projects;

Qualification:

  • Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Architecture, Urban Development and Planning, or a related field is a requirement. A first-level university degree in combination with (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience

  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban development and planning (and/or related fields) is required;
  • Experience working on spatial analysis and/or urban or settlement profiling is required;
  • Experience working on issues related to migration and displacement is required;
  • Working experience with international development agencies is required;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (and their monitoring/evaluation) and of the New Urban Agenda is required;
  • Direct proven experience of urban infrastructure development projects/processes is considered an asset;
  • Understanding of and experience from managing urban data is an asset;
  • Experience working in the public sector, e.g. local governments is an asset;
  • Experience working on social change projects is an asset;
  • Facilitating, designing and managing capacity building processes is an asset;
  • Working experience with the United Nations is an asset
