UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2022

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the overall the overall supervision of the Chief of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section and the day-to-day supervision of the Programme Lead on Municipal Finance and Economy, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Providing technical input on economic matters to various ongoing projects within the section and UN-Habitat as a whole
  • Provide input on urban economy related issues within the agency
  • Support and ensure the integration of economic and finance aspects in the existing PFES methodologies and tools, such as Spatial Development Framework, Our City Plans, Public Space tools
  • Drafting working papers to support mayors and city-level decision makers on matters of economic development.
  • Researching Urban Economy trends to better understand donor trends as well as local government and private sector needs
  • Providing inputs to the conceptualization of UN-Habitat’s role in development of its Urban Economy portfolio
  • Drafting progress reports, including documentation such as donor reports, knowledge products, advocacy and outreach;
  • Facilitating the delivery of technical support to capacity development trainings at national and local scales;
  • Representing UN-Habitat and the PFES, in meetings with external partners
  • Preparing and delivering presentations about the work of UN-Habitat in the space of the Urban Economy
  • Good to add duties on communications and visibility (advocacy).

Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Economics, Public Finance, Public Policy or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban economics and/or local economic development is required;
  • Experience of working on issues of public finance is an asset;
  • Direct proven experience of urban infrastructure development projects/processes is considered as asset;
  • Understanding of and experience from managing urban data is an asset;
  • Experience working in/for the public sector in developing countries, e.g. local governments is considered an asset;
