UNODC Job Vacancy 2022

Specific Tasks: Under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative and direct supervision of the Head of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme UNODC ROEA, and within the framework of the UNODC Regional Programme for Eastern Africa (2016-2021) the consultant will perform the following tasks:

  • Develop any assigned communication products and related documents / inputs, or guide others on their content, in line with the PLEAD Communication Strategy and PLEAD main messages.
  • Contribute to communication products being developed by national partners, addressing their specific needs and guided by PLEAD main messages.
  • Support the implementation of the PLEAD Communication Strategy as guided by the Senior Communication Specialist.
  • Edit the quarterly PLEAD newsletter, highlighting PLEAD interventions, including special editions on AJS, ACM and e-justice, as further guided by the Senior Communication Specialist. This shall include the drafting of content.
  • Develop and implement succinct and effective communication plans for key PLEAD visibility events (such as high-level conferences and NCAJ Council meetings) in coordination with communication focal points of national partners and the European Union. This shall entail drafting of background documents, media releases, presentations, summaries and talking points.
  • Spearhead a PLEAD activity on support on customer care desks in courts in coordination with the Judiciary. This includes, inter alia, the development of IEC materials on judicial processes for the consumption by the public and organization of trainings for customer care staff members of the Judiciary.
  • Oversee a follow up study on the use of IEC materials in courts as well as equipment provided to customer care desks to assess gaps and identify areas of improvement.
  • Editing and revising PLEAD publications – including managing the process for final approval and printing. The editing shall, inter alia, ensure consistency and flow of text as well as correct sentence and paragraph structure, word choice, punctuation and grammar.
  • Update the UNODC REOA Twitter account and website to raise visibility of PLEAD and ensure that there is regular content covering the Programme’s events.
  • Ensure that all PLEAD products, documents, materials and events give appropriate visibility to the European Union, including the correct application of its emblem, acknowledgement statement and standard disclaimers.

Qualification:

  • An advanced degree in journalism, communications or a related field is required. A first-level university degree or equivalent, with an additional two years of relevant working experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in communications is required.
  • Experience in supporting justice reform or justice sector support programs is desirable.
  • Experience within an International Organization or the United Nations system is desirable.
  • Working experience in programmes funded by the European Union is desirable.
  • Experience working within Eastern Africa region is desirable.
