UNSOM Job Vacancy 2023
Responsibilities:
Based in Nairobi, the intern will work under the guidance of the Climate and Environment Advisor to the UN Somalia and conduct research and engage with think-tanks and academics and the UN on the impact of climate change on:
- Governance (Environmental rights, technology, land, water and displacement rights) and Power or political economy (transfer and balance, informal and formal networks around natural resource management),
- Policy (generation, effectiveness, relations with local and regional bodies on climate and environment),
- Structure and social organization (community attitudes, relationships, discourse, narrative and cooperation around natural resources and the impacts of climate change).
- The intern will be responsible for undertaking the primary and secondary research, producing a written document of no more than 25 pages summarizing the work, preparing presentation material in a variety of formats for use with different partners including a full length slide deck and a clear Policy Paper with recommendations for the UN to take forward. The final product should include specific policy recommendations for the Climate and Environment team and for the wider UN approach in Somalia.
Qualification:
- be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
- be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Experience:
- No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
