Job Purpose: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetime. WFP works in over 80 countries worldwide ensuring no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need. The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, partnership and management support to WFP operations and activities in ten countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. The RBN Partnership and Innovation Team provides leadership, expertise and support to WFP’s regional and country-level positioning, partnering, innovation and resourcing efforts in Eastern Africa. WFP has funding needs for its operations in East Africa in 2022 of up US$ 5 billion and prioritizing funding streams is a key priority. WFP has identified the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) as one of biggest opportunities for diversified and increased funding. RBN increased funding from the GCC (mainly UAE and Saudi Arabia) from less than 1 million in 2020 to 8 million in 2021 and are forecasting an additional increase in 2022. However, there are futher opportunities to increase funding from GCC governments and strengthen engagement with GCC private sector and innovation actors given the strategic interest of the Gulf countries in East Africa.

  • Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Marketing Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or Training/courses.

  • Experience in international organizations/companies outside of home country.
