Job Purpose: The “Integrated approach to climate change in the rice production system in Nigeria” is a Joint Action by EU and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is part of the EU Action “Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and at the same time of the global project “Green Innovation Centers in the Agriculture and Food Sector- Country Package Nigeria (GIC-NIGERIA)” which is part of the global BMZ special initiative “One World Without Hunger”.
Your Tasks:
- Lead project implementation to ensure high quality outputs and results
- Financial and technical responsibility for the Action
- Communication with the Contracting authority for full information on progress in the sector and timely reporting to EU as stipulated
- Management of the team of international and national long-term experts
- Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as Knowledge management
- Coordination of implementation with other stakeholders, donors and Action components as necessary
Qualification and Experience:
- University degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics or related field
- Many years of experience with management of development projects, preferably related to or within the German development cooperation/GIZ
- Extensive experience in the rice sector with a focus on sustainability and climate change adaptation and mitigation
- Several years of experience in the implementation of EU financed or co-financed development projects and familiar with EU-project implementation procedures
- Experience and good understanding of the promotion of agriculture value chains through integrated approaches for agricultural transformation
- Experience with land and resource use integration of farmers and herders will be an advantage
- Cultural sensibility and ability to work well in a cross-cultural team
