IFPRI Job Vacancy 2022

Specific Deliverables:

• Conduct interviews with key HarvestPlus staff to understand the existing available data regarding VAM seed and grain production
• Provide a breakdown of the total maize market in Nigeria, including composition from white, yellow, and orange maize; hybrids vs. OPV; commercial vs. noncommercial (seed sharing), etc.
• Of the above total market, provide a list of the major commercial seed producers, multipliers, and sellers (including brand names)
• Provide examples of leading competitor marketing materials, including seed packs, photos of POS, promotions, etc.
• Validate the HarvestPlus seed production data
• Validate the HarvestPlus grain production data
• Provide metrics and breakdown of the seed market share and grain market share
• Make predictions on market growth based on the rate of change over the previous 10 years
• Provide a breakdown of commercial users of maize from brewing, animal feed, and human food consumption
• Map the major uses of maize in the food system, such as basic flour, breads, maize meal, snacks, breakfast cereals, cakes, confectionary, etc.
• Map the top 20 biggest commercial users of maize in Nigeria
• Write report, using easy-to-read graphics, charts, and reports

Evaluation Criteria:                

• Understanding of the scope of work
• Understanding of the project objective
• Evidence of past experience developing and delivering a project of this type
• Existing experience with bio fortification or agricultural interventions (experience with GAIN, HarvestPlus, and/or CGIAR would be desirable but not essential
• The methodological approaches required to implement each of the parts of the scope of work
• Comprehensive work plan with reasonable time frame
• Detailed budget, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and return on investment
• Identification of possible challenges and creative approaches to addressing them
• Management and personnel plan, with team members with relevant qualifications and overall experience required to successfully implement the project
• Clearly defined roles and responsibilities of each team member, with a main contact person for HarvestPlus clearly identified
