Save the Children Job Vacancy 2021

Job Purpose: The post holder is responsible to provide technical assistance and support capacity strengthening of Partners implementing a Gender Transformative Interventions addressing adolescent and youth family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) and gender equality issues, in Ebonyi and Sokoto states.

Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Provide ASRH technical assistance (TA) and capacity development to local partners for the design, adaptation and implementation of a gender transformative program reaching adolescents and youth to improve early uptake of FP and delay child marriage
  • Strengthen MCGL and local partner staff technical capacity in FP/RH and CEFM, including implementation of programming focused on addressing CEFM and adolescent and youth FP/RH
  • Develop and adapt intervention materials and program tools from Save the Children’s Reaching and Empowering Adolescents to make informed Choices for their Health (REACH) Project and USAID-funded Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focused on adolescent FP/RH and CEFM
  • Provide technical assistance in facilitating a nine-dialogue and reflection sessions for out of school adolescents’ boys and girls using structured curricula-based education that address gender, CEFM, and FP (Choices & ASRH curriculum)
  • Facilitate and contribute to capacity strengthening workshops on the adapted adolescent FP/RH and CEFM intervention approaches for local partners.
  • Support local partners to plan and conduct bi-monthly in-depth community norms shifting discussion sessions and dialogues on CEFM, IPV, SV and benefits of FP with targeted community members – women, men, youth groups, religious/community leaders and WDCs
  • Participate in MCGL project meetings and occasionally lead presentations on project progress
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and engagement with the Local Implementing Partners
  • Coordinate with and keep MCGL HQ and Country Office PDQ teams apprised of progress on technical aspects proactively advising of potential challenges and proposing mitigating measures, as relevant
  • Represent MCGL / SCI in relevant national and sub-national forums

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, gender or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with local context and willingness to travel and work in the Ebonyi and Sokoto states
  • Familiarity with Save the Children’s evidence-based approaches including Choices, Voices, Promises, GREAT and Our First Baby and experience with adapting these approaches to the Nigerian context
  • Expertise on social and gender norms, gender-based violence, child and early forced marriage and family planning programming for adolescents and youth
  • Experience with partnering with community-based organizations/civil society organizations/ faith-based organizations to implement research studies and interventions at community level
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating capacity strengthening workshops
  • Familiarity with USAID and USAID’s adolescent and youth priorities as well as regulations, compliance and reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in word processing and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) in English
  • Independence, adaptability and flexibility
  • Commitment to team working and understanding of how to contribute’Commitment to SCI’s mission, values and approach (includes child protection, gender equality and inclusion, equal opportunities, and health and safety)
