UNFPA Job Vacancy 2023

Job Purpose: The consultant will provide policy and programmatic support on disability inclusion, and gender mainstreaming for achieving GEWE (addressing inequalities in relation to the three transformational results) based on the core principles of Leaving No One Behind (LNOB) and a human rights based approach.  The consultant will also contribute to the strengthening of multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral capacity for advocacy, development, implementation and evaluation of policies and programmes to mainstream disability and gender from a human right’s based approach. The consultant’s role will be key to monitor progress, exchange information and tools, and maintain dialogue within UNFPA programming and among relevant stakeholders.

Scope of work:

  • Providing technical guidance and, support the aligning of UNFPA Nigeria programming with UNFPA strategic plans on HRBA/Gender Equality/LNOB as well as recommendations from international Human Rights mechanisms in development and humanitarian arenas
  • Strategic engagement and strengthening capacities of multi-stakeholders including relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, NHRIs, Parliamentarians, CSOs especially those that are women, youth led, disability focused and other organizations for ensuring actualization of the GEWE and LNOB strategies including through mainstreaming of culture, gender, and human rights in all population and development programs and policies.
  • Representing UNFPA at UN and other technical working groups
  • Supporting generation and utilization of data for advocacy and resource mobilization as well as assisting in writing proposals and engaging in resource mobilization efforts to support agency, joint programming and UN delivering as One initiative.
  • Helping to create and document knowledge about current and emerging gender issues for People living with Disabilities (PWDs) and other marginalized groups, by analyzing programs, projects, strategies, approaches and ongoing experiences for lessons learned, best practices, and share with the Field Office team for use in knowledge sharing and planning future strategies for the vulnerable community.
  • Monitoring and reporting as well as documentation on UNFPA Nigeria’s progress to improve accountability
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned by UNFPA Representatives, Deputy Representative or Gender/GBV Specialist.

Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences or its equivalent in Sociology, Special Education, Sociology, Adult Education, Public Health and Community Development Studies; OR
  • A first degree, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • 2 years of professional experience in gender, disability, public health or social sciences.
  • Recognized expertise in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Familiar with issues on population, reproductive health, gender, GBV and youth.
  • Experience in working with Government institutions and donor organizations.
  • Proven ability to produce demonstrable results.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Proficiency in current office software applications is mandatory.
