DRC Job Vacancy 2021

Overall Purpose of the Role: Under the line management of the Head of Program, and the technical supervision of the Protection Coordinator, the Protection Specialist will provide technical guidance and support to the protection team. The Protection Specialist will directly contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of DRC’s Protection strategy in South Sudan. The role will provide technical support to various components of South Sudan protection programming which include SGBV, General Protection, Housing, Land and Property (HLP) programming) and child protection as assigned. The Protection Specialist contributes to the harmonization and rollout of tools and guidelines that support protection technical quality and overall project planning, implementation and follow up. The position will coordinate closely with Protection Managers on the implementation of activities, and monitoring and reporting with the aim to support quality and efficiency of the overall protection program.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • University or Master’s degree relevant to humanitarian work: preferably in law, social work, gender studies, social sciences or humanitarian aid
  • 5 years proven experience in management/technical support of international protection/GBV programs, including in Gender Based Violence prevention and response. Experience in General Protection, Housing, Land and Property and Child Protection an advantage.
  • Solid experience in SGBV programming, standards and experience in conflict and disaster affected countries. Experience in implementing approaches like SASA! EMAP and Girl Shine.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing training on protection, GBV, GBVIMS, PIM, protection mainstreaming, PSEA, etc.
  • 3 years of experience working directly with displacement and conflict affected population and ideally solid knowledge of the South Sudan context and of the protection and GBV issues faced by IDPs, host community, returnees and other marginalized groups in the South Sudan context
  • Significant knowledge of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Laws, particularly International standards relating to the protection of IDPs
  • Demonstrated experience with protection analysis and protection strategy implementation including proven capacity to document, summarize and analyze protection data and to share information in a clear and systematic manner
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively train and develop skills of protection and non-protection staff
  • Knowledge of Age, Gender and Diversity mainstreaming and Protection mainstreaming
  • Extensive experience in reporting and project development, excellent writing skills in English
  • Proven strong analytical and communication, representation, negotiation, advocacy and diplomacy skills;
  • Experience working and living in a challenging security environment and under strict safety rules and willingness to travel to conflict affected areas
