Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities of the Communications and Media Specialist
The Communications & Media Specialist will be seconded to the JRC Secretariat and will support the JRC with the dissemination of information about the JRC and its mandate to the public, diaspora, and stakeholders, will establish and maintain the JRC’s online presence and engagement, and will perform the following functions:
- Develop a communication strategy for the JRC which includes Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials that will focus on raising awareness and knowledge of the JRC and its mandate in targeted messages shared through appropriate communication channels;
- Work with the service provider engaged on behalf of the JRC to develop its website or to host the same, which shall be an avenue for sharing information and electronically receiving submissions from the public, diaspora and stakeholders;
- Administer and manage the website for the JRC including creating, uploading and updating informative and well-designed web media content on the JRC;
- Periodically write and/or develop opinion pieces, articles, press releases, and social media content on the work of the JRC to be uploaded on the website for the JRC and/or shared and publicized via relevant communication platforms;
- Develop social media campaigns across all interactive social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and others to ensure continuous visibility and online presence.
Eligibility Criteria
Education:
- A University/Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field;
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field;
- A good understanding of the socio-political and rule of law environments in South Sudan;
- A proven commitment to the values of good governance, rule of law, constitutionalism, democracy, human rights and gender equality;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Experience writing opinion pieces, press releases, and social media content;
- Experience with website design and management;
- Proven ability to work under pressure, individually as well as in a team;
- Good inter-personal skills and ease with working in a multi-cultural team;
Languages:
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
