Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the Strategic Planning Unit of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is classified in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station. The Senior Mission Planning Officer reports to the Chief of Staff (CoS).
Eligibility Criteria
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Political Science, Management or Development, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Professional training in the areas of planning, facilitation and/or coordination is a asset.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of ten years of relevant, progressively responsible professional experience in planning, political affairs, civil affairs, administration, security, military or related field is required.
- Experience in operational and strategic planning as well as experience facilitating and coordinating multi-stakeholder planning processes in peace consolidation settings is required.
- At least two years in a UN or other peacekeeping mission in a post-conflict country, and/or working with UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant UN policies, procedures and operations is required.
- Experience of designing and applying monitoring and evaluation tools is desirable.
Languages:
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
