Responsibilities
The Human Rights Assistant (HRA) will be responsible for performing the following duties:
- Assist the supervisor in the planning of monitoring, investigation, and capacity building, contributing to initial assessments, taking part of human rights promotional activities, assisting in the development of monitoring questionnaires and assessment surveys, amongst others.
- Assist when required in monitoring activities, including visits to detention facilities, courts, hospitals as required, as thus, is ready to deploy as required.
- Assist in filing the human rights information, including case-related in a relevant, safe, and accurate manner, and contributes to team information-sharing systems, and handling of case files.
- Assist in drafting incident and daily reports and contributes to preparation of briefings and other communication materials and attends a variety of meetings, including with civil society, local authorities, and human rights actors.
- Assist in the logistical organization of all types of human rights activities.
- Support the development of contacts and networks with civil society actors including NGOs.
- Monitor local and national media, including social media, and draws attention of team leaders-to information that may be relevant to the work of the human rights component and make suggestions for referral of cases to specialized services.
- Keep abreast of UN developed policies, including those related to human rights work and takes part in human rights trainings and perform other related duties as required.
- Provides language services and performs other related duties as required.
Eligibility Criteria:
Education:
- High school diploma or High School certificate is required. Technical training in Finance, Budget, Human Resources Management or Administration is highly desirable.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in protection, human rights, or related area is required.
- Solid computer skills including proficiency in word processing and Excel spreadsheets is required.
- Knowledge with function-related provisions of United Nations Rules, Regulations, Manuals and Policies is an advantage.
- Experience with other international organizations is an asset.
Languages:
- Fluency in spoken and written English; Knowledge of a language spoken in the region and/or other UN languages is an advantage.
