UNMISS Job Vacancy 2021
Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Malakal, Upper Nile State. Malakal is classified in the “E” hardship category and as a non-family duty stations. The Associate Aviation Safety Officer based in Malakal is assigned responsibility for UNMISS locations in Upper Nile and Unity states, including but not limited to Malakal, Renk, Nasser, Bunj, Bentiu, and Leer. The position reports to Chief Aviation Safety Officer whom, depending on the needs of the mission, may task them to travel and temporarily conduct activities in other locations within the mission area of operations.
Eligibility Criteria
Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Air Transportation, Aviation Safety Management, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or Air Traffic Management, or graduation from equivalent military educational establishment is required.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in air transportation, air traffic control operations, aviation safety or aviation engineering is required.
- Proficiency in the field of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices as described in ICAO Annexes and Documents, particularly one or more of Annexes 1 – Personnel Licensing, 2 – Rules of the Air, 6 – Operation of Aircraft, 11 – Air Traffic Services, 13 – Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation, 14 – Aerodromes, and 19 – Safety Management is required.
- Familiarity with Aviation Safety and/or Quality Management software such as ECCAIRS, iAviationSafety, Q-Pulse, etc., is desirable.
- IATA Operational Safety Audit program (IOSA), IATA Safety Audit of Ground Operations (ISAGO), Airport Council International APEX or other recognized aviation industry audit qualification desirable.
- Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.
Languages:
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second United Nations official language is an advantage.
