Job Summary:

The Medical clinical officer will head the health unit and offer supervision to the nurses, midwives, laboratory personnel and all the axillary staff. She/he will ensure the health unit deliver a high quality and efficient health care focusing on providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health services to patients and clients within the health facility and community. She/he will work closely with the District Health Department, UNHCR, OPM (camp commandant) to ensure compliance to all the reporting datelines and incorporating lessons learnt over time to strengthen the health system.

Technical

  • Assess patient condition, diagnose and prescribe treatment and refer severe cases in line with Uganda clinical guideline.
  • Attend to emergency cases in the facility and determine when to transfer a patient ensuring referrals are managed efficiently to minimize complication.
  • Provide clear information to the patient and family/treatment supporter about the illness and treatment prescribed; verify understanding to ensure informed consent and adherence to treatment.
  • Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on therapeutic and preventive health services.
  • Ensure all patients medical information is well recorded in the patient’s treatment card or registration book for patient’s treatment continuity and follow-up.
  • Ensure general hygiene standards and universal precautions are followed at all times, implement and monitor actions to reduce bio-hazard risks and improve
  • infection prevention and control.
  • Ensure that medical decisions are made with the highest level of integrity and professional ethics and organization Code of Conduct.

Position in Organization:

  • Job Title: Medical Clinical Officer.
  • Responsible to: Project Manager
  • Number of positions: 1
  • Work Station: Ofua IV (Rhino-camp).

Qualification:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Community Health or equivalent, registered with Allied Health Professionals Council and has a valid practicing license., with at least:
  • 2 years of clinical medicine experience, and an experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of primary health care, professional clinical medicine principles and community health and working with the District Local Government health system.
  • Skilled in applying clinical medicine principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • High competence levels in using Microsoft word, Excel and Power Point
  • Strong skills in teamwork and networking. Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Fluency in the local languages such as Kakwa, Madi, Arabic and Lugbara is preferable
  • Ability and willingness to live and stay within Ofua trading centre in Rhino Camp for ease of access to the health facility
