Organizational Setting: FAO has a clear mandate for, and comparative advantage in, supporting early warning and early action to protect food security and agriculture. As part of FAO’s overall goal of ending hunger and poverty, Strategic Objective (SO) 5 aims to increase the resilience of livelihoods to threats and crises. Under this objective, three Organizational Outcomes prioritize FAO’s role in early warning; prevention and mitigation; and preparedness and response.
Eligibility criteria
Minimum Requirements:
- University degree in meteorology, agro-meteorology, hydrology, agriculture, environmental sciences, natural resources management, disaster risk reduction, or a related field
- Five years of relevant experience in agriculture, early warning systems, vulnerability analysis, disaster risk management, information technology, and/or project management
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian)

Technical/Functional Skills:
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.

- Extent of experience and knowledge of modern information technology tools and techniques including real-time data collection, storage and analysis
- Extent of experience and knowledge with Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing or computer programming
- Extent of experience and knowledge of managing technical projects
