Purpose of the Position

  • The purpose of this position is to support the work of the WHO Country Office in Uganda to plan, coordinate, and implement activities aimed at improving immunization coverage in refugee-hosting districts. Priority work will include ensuring that zero-dose and under-vaccinated refugees and migrants are reached with the recommended vaccines as well as implementing interventions aimed at preparing for and responding to vaccine-preventable diseases outbreaks.

Qualification:

  • University degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in medicine, epidemiology, public health, health sciences, or a related discipline.
  • An advanced university degree, master’s level or above in health (medicine or public health).
  • Five years of relevant experience in the field of immunization, disease surveillance, or prevention and detection of vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Experience in conducting research and translating research findings to policy
  • Relevant experience working with WHO or with the UN system
  • Relevant experience working on refugee and migrant health and/or cross-border health interventions.

Functional Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge in public health, as well as an understanding of migration dynamics in Uganda.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the national health system, service delivery models, immunization programmes and strategies. Knowledge of how to conduct scientific research.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to identify issues, formulate opinions, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge or understanding of WHO mandate and goals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national health system, service delivery models, and immunization service delivery.
