CHAI Job Vacancy 2022

Overview of Role: CHAI is seeking a highly motivated epidemiologist with strong public health experience and analytical skills to advise CHAI malaria and NTD staff and mentor CHAI epidemiologists working directly with government counterparts to assess, design, and scale-up disease surveillance systems; conduct robust epidemiological and spatial data analysis; monitor and evaluate the success of ongoing efforts to reduce disease burden and achieve elimination in relevant geographies; and translate results for decision-makers. The individual will collaborate with a diverse team based across multiple countries and regions (primarily but not exclusively in Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda), government programs, academics, and public health agencies.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Masters in Public Health, Epidemiology or related field, or similar experience
  • 5+ years of working experience related to the above responsibilities with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership
  • Experience mentoring, managing, and leading teams comprised of junior technical staff
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple epidemiological projects across countries
  • Enthusiasm for applying research methods to solve global health problems focusing on malaria and NTDs and/or other major global infectious disease concerns
  • Enthusiasm for and exceptional skills for managing epidemiological data, conducting analysis of health data, and using analyses for decision-making, including experience with statistical and geospatial analysis (e.g., expertise with R, SAS, STATA, ArcGIS and/or other relevant software)
  • High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications
  • Experience with designing, conducting, and analyzing epidemiological surveys
  • Experience in evaluating, working with, and strengthening disease surveillance systems
  • Experience in working and communicating with government officials and other external partners
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in report writing and other concise written communications, including list of peer-reviewed publications and peer-reviewed experience
  • Ability to work independently in remote and unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments and challenges, and ability to collaborate and operate as part of a multicultural team
  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50%)
  • Fluency in English

Advantages:

  • DrPH or PhD in public health
  • Experience in programming and/or working with surveillance platforms (e.g., DHIS2), data collection tools (e.g., ODK) and/or data visualization applications (e.g., Tableau)
  • Experience living or working in resource-limited settings especially in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Portuguese language skills
