Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Support regular updating and development of external communication materials, including project fact sheets, IEC/SBCC tools, success stories and other promotional materials; and ensure they are technically sound prior to their distribution and dissemination.
  • Assist in the writing and review of technical project reports, drafting manuscripts for publication, editing of research concept papers and project proposals, and other publications.
  • Collect and systematically organize and analyze existing information from academic and governmental sources dealing with migration health to support the development of quality concept papers, presentations, technical guidance notes and information sheets;
  • Develop a database to track and describe existing national, regional and international recommendations, policies and strategies related to the management of migration health issues in Southern Africa.
  • Support the M&E Unit in the identification, and documentation of emerging best practices based on work done by IOM in migration and health, and IOM’s current response to health emergencies.
  • Support implementation of capacity building activities for country project teams and implementing partners so as to ensure full mainstreaming of SRHR, gender equality and migration into their institutional plans and policies.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

  • University Degree in public health, medicine, migration health, social sciences or related field with three years’ experience OR
  • High School degree/certificate in the aforementioned field of study with five years of professional experience.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in working in public health, HIV and SRHR and livelihood programs focused on youth, adolescents and migrants, preferably within government, UN agencies, NGOs and Academia.
  • Basic documentation and reporting writing skills, facilitation/training skills, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Basic Knowledge and skills in computer use, particularly MS word and working knowledge of data analysis using STATA and SPSS.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the broad range of migration health such as development of IEC/SBCC tools, human rights approaches to capacity building in SRHR and HIV programming.
  • Knowledge on operations research in public and knowledge translation
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

  • Position Grade: G5 (UN Salary scale for General Services in the Republic of South Africa)
