IWMI Job Vacancy 2022

Description: The Postdoctoral Fellow, Water and Climate Policy will provide technical expertise for activities associated with water and climate policy analysis and applied, transdisciplinary scientific research in this domain. The postdoc will collaborate with multiple IWMI teams, public sector stakeholders and development partners to develop comprehensive water and climate policy analyses using appropriate research methods and make climate-related recommendations for actions, which have implications for policy and legislation, awareness campaigns, and prospective fundraising approaches, specifically for the Accelerating Impacts of the CGIAR’s climate research in Africa (AICCRA) project implemented in Zambia, and Ukama Ustawi (UU), the Regional Integrated Initiative for East and Southern Africa (ESA) implemented in 12 focus countries.

Eligibility Criteria

Specific Experience Required:

  • A PhD in public policy, political science, development studies, economics, agricultural economics, geography, environment or another closely related field
  • Experience in research for development (R4D), specifically on issues relating to water and climate policy
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Familiarity with water and climate policy as they relate to agricultural systems
  • Tran disciplinary methodologies in political economy, policy and institutional analysis related to sustainable development and climate resilience across the nexus of food, water, and energy
  • Demonstrated field research experience in the ESA region, preferably in research-for-development (R4D) projects in Africa
  • Good publications track record, preferably in internationally peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability and willingness to travel across AICCRA and UU work locations for conducting research and facilitating consultative discussions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional and multicultural environment
  • Excellent communications skills in English and the ability to explain complex issues to diverse audiences, including at local, national and regional levels.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of proposal writing for innovative R4D projects
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse public, private and civil society actors
  • Established networks with academic, policy, private and civil society actors working on water and climate policy.
  • Conversational knowledge of local dialects and languages in the ESA region.
