UNDP Job Vacancy 2021
Job Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to undertake agro-meteorological and water information needs assessmentfor smallholder farmers in the sixteen (16) districts in Zambia. The assessment will firstly identify the gaps in the current meteorological, water and agriculture products and services to smallholder farmers. It will include a comprehensive identification of products, services and tools that need to be improved and those to develop for smallholder farmers by the producers of agro-climate products and services. It envisaged that the results of this assessment would guide in the provision of sector and location specific agro-meteorological, water and agricultural services that are accessible to decision-makers in Government and local communities.
The scope of this assignment will include carrying out the following Tasks:
- Identify gaps in the current meteorological, water and agriculture products and services for smallholder farmers;
- Undertake a comprehensive identification of location-specificagro-meteorological and water information requirements for smallholder farmers in the sixteen districts of the project;
- Identify effective mechanisms of disseminating agro-meteorological and water information to smallholder farmers timely;
- Identify social and gender barriers in agro-meteorological and water information uptake;
- design effective mechanisms for getting feedback information from users on agro-meteorological and water needsand integrate into development of information, products and services;
- Propose and design the agro-meteorological information, products and services that will fill the identified gaps and fulfill the needs of the users;
- Identify and recommend training needs for ZMD, WARMA and Agriculture to generate the proposed agro-meteorological and water products and services;
- Identifyand document indigenous knowledge on agro-meteorological and water information to compliment conventional/scientific knowledge.
Qualification:
- illustrate knowledge and understanding of climate change and climate variability and impacts on water and agriculture value chains;
- demonstrate experience in conducting surveys, data collection and analysis;
- At least 5 years of practical experience in climate information generation for agriculture and water sector applications;
- demonstrate experience in working with weather and climate, water, and agriculture data;
- The consultant should have capacity to deploy required resources and experts with good technical, analytical and report writing skills;
- demonstrate capabilities and a thorough understanding of the assignment as outlined in the concept note and Terms Of Reference (TOR) and present a clear methodology for implementation;
Experience:
- At least 10 years relevant work experience in the development and generation weather, climate, water and agriculture information;
- Knowledge in agriculture extension services;
- Experience in engaging and working with smallholder famers;
- Experience in undertaking similar projects will be added advantage;
