In support of the Government of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has embarked on the implementation of a five-year Country Programme Document (CPD) 2016-2020.

UNDP focuses on areas that have a multiplier effect through a targeted build-up of capacities, policies, the creation of dialogue space, and scalable downstream interventions. Proposed downstream interventions will seek to provide platforms for citizen engagement in democratic processes and facilitate access to skills, knowledge and new technologies for increased income generation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall projects coordination and participation of national partners ensuring national ownership;
  • Preparation and implementation of annual results-based work plans, budgets, and other documents as approved by management;
  • Regular monitoring and tracking of progress against annual and quarterly work plans and budgets;
  • Ensure regular monitoring of progress, preparation of progress reports, and organization of regular evaluations and reviews;
  • Ensure compliance with the Project monitoring dashboards through the production of analytical progress update reports;
  • Ensure the day to day administrative matters of the Projects;
  • Coordinate Project Board and Projects management team meetings; consolidate and synthesize meeting outputs for timely adjustments to work plans inputs; ensure reports are produced timely according to UNDP’s contractual obligations;
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports and organize, correspondingly, monthly and quarterly progress reviews;
  • Ensure compliance with HACT assurance activities such as audits, spot-checks, implementation of follow up and action plans;
  • Support management in creating a positive and appreciative atmosphere for team-based work in UNDP and advocating for the work of UNDP;
  • Analysis and research of information on donors, preparation of substantive briefs on possible areas of cooperation, identification of opportunities for cost-sharing;
  • Prepare proposals for mobilization of human, technical or financial resources from international development organizations, non-government organizations, and the private sector;

Qualification:

  • Minimum of a Masters’ degree or equivalent in Human Rights, Law, political science, international relations, or development studies and a minimum of two additional years of qualifying experience or a Bachelors degree in Human Rights, Law, political science, international relations, or development studies combination with four additional years of qualifying experience.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in providing policy research/advisory/advocacy services and programme management including partnership building in the area of Human Rights, rule of law, and access to justice;
  • Hands-on experience in design, monitoring & evaluation, and management of development projects; sound knowledge of international best practice, national policies, legal and institutional frameworks in Human Rights, rule of law, and access to justice;
  • Demonstrable awareness and experience of new technologies and innovations in the areas of Access to justice, Rule of Law, and Human Rights;
  • Good analytical, conceptualization, and communication skills; ability to work as a team member in a multicultural environment;
  • Demonstrable knowledge in Human Rights-Based Approach to programming;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of result-based management, UN programme management policies, and procedures;
  • Strong analytical research, communication, and report writing skills;
  • Capacity to work in teams, particularly in conjunction with target group representatives
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate maturity and neutrality in dealing with sensitive issues.;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and database packages;
  • Proven track record of programming in the UN system and working knowledge of the UN system;
  • Excellent command of English and good communication skills.

Languages

  • Fluency in English and at least one local language i.e Shona or Ndebele.
