In support of the Government of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has embarked on the implementation of a five-year Country Programme Document (CPD) 2016-2020.

UNDP focuses on areas that have a multiplier effect through a targeted build-up of capacities, policies, the creation of dialogue space, and scalable downstream interventions. Proposed downstream interventions will seek to provide platforms for citizen engagement in democratic processes and facilitate access to skills, knowledge and new technologies for increased income generation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Technical Consultant will be under the direct supervision of the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative with a day-to-day reporting line to the Head of Governance ad Peace Building Unit or designated UN implementing agency

  • Provide technical support in the form of programme development and advisory services in the broad areas of Human Rights, Women’s rights, Peacebuilding, Elections and Media towards project formulation, activities implementation and reporting;
  • Support inter-agency coordination to achieve a coherent and aligned presence for the Support to the Chapter 12;
  • Technical support to the partners consultations, management and implementation of the Support to the Chapter 12 Commissions project phases;
  • Provide supervisory support to the reporting authorities on programme consultancy work;
  • Provide technical support to the implementation of Programme Quality Assurance Activities and Monitoring and Evaluation activities;
  • Support in building partnerships and support in the development of the resource mobilization strategies;
  • Support the communications and visibility planning and implementation in Chapter 12 implementation.

Qualification:

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, law, inclusive governance, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required.
  • A project/programme management certification would be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible development experience that combines programme coordination and strategic planning in the areas of human rights; law, inclusive governance, gender/women’s studies, international development;
  • Experience in programme management; planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting;
  • Experience of working internationally is an asset;
  • Work experience with at least one UN agency/organization;
  • Experience in multisectoral coordination including with government agencies and/or donors;
  • Experience in leading/managing a team;
  • Experience with donor funded projects is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of at least one local language;
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
