In support of the Government of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has embarked on the implementation of a five-year Country Programme Document (CPD) 2016-2020.

UNDP focuses on areas that have a multiplier effect through a targeted build-up of capacities, policies, the creation of dialogue space, and scalable downstream interventions. Proposed downstream interventions will seek to provide platforms for citizen engagement in democratic processes and facilitate access to skills, knowledge and new technologies for increased income generation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensuring the strategic direction of UNDP programming in the area of Environment, Climate Change and Renewable Energy achieving the following results:

  • Provides an overall strategic vision with a view to building national capacities for gender sensitive climate change response, related disaster management and sustainable ecosystems management;
  • Ensuring thematic integration in the Country Programme and for mainstreaming of environment, climate change and risk approaches and related gender considerations in all programme areas;
  • Facilitate Cross collaboration among UNDP units and Units;
  • Facilitates strategic partnerships and support to resource mobilization;
  • Provision of top-quality policy advice services to the Government and facilitation of knowledge building and management;
  • Thorough analysis of the political, social and economic situation in the country and support to the preparation/revision of UNDAF, country programme document (CPD), project documents work plans and programme/project technical and financial reports and other documents;
  • Drafting speeches, briefing notes, concept notes;
  • Supervision and leadership of the UNDP Environment and Renewable Energy, Climate Change and related Disaster Risk and the UNDP
  • Greening Committee;
  • Provide implementation support to donor funded projects supporting several project management units, including projects funded by GCF and GEF.

Qualification:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, Climate Change, Development Studies, International Relations, Business/Public Administration, or other development-related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum five years of relevant experience at the nationalor international level in the area of environment, renewable energy and climate change preferably in the UN and/or international organizations;
  • Experience in managing staff and operational systems and establishing inter-relationships among international organizations and national governments in the area of environment, renewable energy and climate change programming;
  • Knowledge of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and international negotiation processes;
  • Experience in providing technical and advisory services to the Government and key stakeholders;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office softwarepackages, experience in handling of web-based management systemsand social knowledgenetworks;
  • Knowledge and experience in Climate and or Renewable Energy Finance are desirable;
  • Knowledge and experience of UNDP and UN system policies ad programming is desirable.
