How can you make a difference?

  • UNICEF Zimbabwe is seeking to hire an innovative and enthusiastic individual consultant to to support the development of an HIV Sustainability Roadmap for Zimbabwe as part of strengthening the health care system.

BACKGROUND

Zimbabwe is one of the high HIV burden countries with a prevalence of 12 percent, with 1.2 million people living with HIV (ZIMPHIA, 2020). Although the HIV incidence amongst adults is low at 0.4 percent, it has a significant gender dimension, being higher among women (0.5%) than men (0.2%), specifically, women aged 15-24 years (0.8%). The 12 percent prevalence masks the regional variation which is as high as 17.6 per cent in Matabeleland South Province. In 2020, there were an estimated number of 1.2 million people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Zimbabwe of which 120,000 were children and adolescents aged 0-19 years old. The mother to child transmission rate of HIV is high and currently at 9 per cent. Twenty three per cent of all new infections in Zimbabwe during 2020 were among adolescent girls and young women despite accounting for only circa 10 per cent of the population.

Qualification:

  • Shona and Ndebele will be an added advantage
