UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by assisting in planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
  • Assists in the land-related researches, analysis and presentation of information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of inclusive, gender-responsive and fit-for-purpose land policies, tools and approaches and in related capacity development interventions.
  • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of land-related issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Assists in undertaking survey initiatives; in designing of data collection tools; in the review, analysis and interpretation of responses, identifying of problems/issues and in preparing conclusions.
  • Assists in the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Assists in the conduct of consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
  • Assists in undertaking outreach activities; conduct of training workshops, seminars, etc.; and in making presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Assists in field missions, including in supporting provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.

Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree in land management business administration, management, urban and rural development, social work and social science, public administration, economics, international development or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management in the land management sector or related area is required.
  • Experience with an international organization and/or United Nations is desirable.
