ILRI Job Vacancy 2021

Job Purpose: The identification and implementation of locally-effective adaptation and mitigation practices under high levels of uncertainty present major challenges, however. A new project at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the Program on Climate Smart Livestock (PCSL), is exploring possible future livestock development pathways in three focus countries (Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya).

Scope of Work:

The consultant will conduct a desk review to investigate how many proposed or existing projects there are that include actual finance for climate adaptation and mitigation of GHG emissions in livestock production systems (or to support livestock-related livelihoods).  The consultant may also wish to conduct phone or email interviews.

Countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal and Mali, including East or Horn of Africa and Sahel or West Africa regional projects.

Documents: Any proposal or project documents that specify investment to adapt to climate change.  They must specify that climate change is being addressed, but they do not need to be about livestock only. This can include proposals for drought risk financing or resilience building

Qualification & Experience:

  • Master’s in Agricultural Economics, Resource Economics or related field
  • At least five years’ experience in agriculture sector
  • Knowledge of climate change finance and agriculture sector, preferably in Africa
  • Excellent research skills including perseverance to find or request documents
  • English, French desirable
