UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2022

Job Responsibilities: The Administrative Officer will be responsible for the following:

  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
  • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Participates in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
  • Develops, uploads and transfers information from Project Accrual and Accountability System (PAAS) into Integrated Planning, Management and Reporting (IPMR), and supports creation of a new WUF programme in IPMR.
  • Provides support in monitoring the WUF outcome documents (e.g., declared actions) and committed actions collected in the Urban Agenda Platform.
  • Provides support to other UN-Habitat’s corporate priority programmes and events such as the United Nations Habitat Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat Assembly), World Habitat Day and World Cities Day with mobilizing key partners and stakeholders to align with the WUF mandate. Liaises and works with UN-Habitat personnel in the headquarter, liaison, regional and country offices, to support a collaborative approach towards the second UN-Habitat Assembly;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualification:

  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is required in physical sciences such as architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, urban policy and management or another related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in the fields of urban development, urban planning, urban policy, programme management, planning, architecture, or public policy is required.
