UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2023
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the implementation of UN-Habitat roadmap to end homelessness through the gathering, production and systematisation of knowledge, advocacy and capacity building materials on access to housing and homelessness within marginalised communities including migrants and refugees, youth, indigenous peoples;
- Develop the outline, methodology and terms of reference for the preparation of the Secretary General progress report on inclusive policy to end homelessness;
- Conduct research to identify policy initiatives, advocacy partners and targets on access to housing and ending homelessness;
- Develop key messages, knowledge products and advocacy materials for various stakeholders and audiences (including news stories, case studies, Op-Eds, policy briefs, social media content, talking points, reports and fact sheets);
- Organize the International Conference on housing rights, specifically focusing on access to housing for marginalised groups;
- Create knowledge networks and Communities of Practice.
Qualification & Experience:
- Advanced university degree (masters or similar) in journalism, communications, social sciences or related fields (including political science, public policy, international development, migration studies, or similar) is required.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, including writing articles, reports and-or academic texts is required
- Experience in writing analytical texts relating to housing rights, urban governance, migration governance, or migration issues is desirable
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in spoken and written English and French is required. Knowledge of additional languages is desirable
