UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2021

Job Responsibilities: Based in Kenya and supporting other countries and partners as appropriate, and within delegated authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Ensure clear, coherent and consistent communication about the role, strategic focus and activities of the LHS Section.
  • Manage and elaborate content on the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) and Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP) websites, ensuring information is clearly presented, relevant and continuously updated.
  • Prepare communications materials for print/electronic/voice/visual media and supports the production and dissemination of LHS Section results reporting.
  • Review and manage the production of videos and photography and schedule and oversee services provided by videographers, photographers as required.
  • Provide communication support as need for seminars, lectures, conferences, public events on major issues and events concerning the Land, Housing and Shelter (LHS) Section.
  • Coordinate with service providers (e.g. printers, designers, photographers, writers, editors, advertising/ marketing/event coordination agencies)
  • Identify social media stories and research, write and edit social media releases and briefings.
  • Provide internal consultancy and media advice to staff to ensure that the agreed strategies are implemented, and consistency of image is maintained.
  • Provide advice on strategic and innovative approaches to communicating the work of LHS Section and supports the planning and implementation of advocacy campaigns directed at a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Maintain a photo database that contains images expressive of the issues, actions and results the LHS Section is working on.
  • In line with the communications strategy, proactively advocate key LHS Section messages in all interaction with partners and other stakeholders, ensuring consistency and clarity of agreed messages.
  • Work with the Section lead in preparing for and organising public speaking engagements with the preparation of background materials and speaking points.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with other UN-Habitat communication officers and focal points to disseminate information about the LHS Section activities and to support consistent information sharing within the agency.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualification:

  • A first level university degree in Communications, Journalism, Advocacy, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field is required. A Master’s Degree in one of these areas is desirable.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in communication, journalism, print and broadcast media, and interactive digital and social media is required.
  • Work experience with local/national government, the United Nations or similar international organization is required.
  • Experience in information, public awareness, advocacy and communications or in any related discipline; Understanding of multi-stakeholder partnership arrangements, operations management and dynamics in a complex environment is desirable.
  • Experience in methodologies relating to planning, executing and monitoring public communications campaigns, e.g. campaign management, message targeting, impact evaluation, etc. is desirable.
  • Work experience in web management, desktop publishing, video editing, graphic software is highly desirable.
