UN Habitat Job Vacancy 2022

Duties and Responsibilities: The consultancy is located in the Programme Development Branch and closely coordinates with colleagues in the UN-Habitat’s Regional and Country Offices. Under the overall guidance of the Branch Coordinator, and direct supervision by the Programme Management Officer, the consultancy will involve the following typical main duties leading to the ultimate requested outputs:

  • Reviewing available spatial data related to urban informality, biodiversity, and climate vulnerability assembled by UN-Habitat for the cities of Honiara, Solomon Islands; Lilongwe, Malawi; and Morondava, Madagascar
  • Designing and conducting one virtual fact finding workshop on spatial data availability with governmental departments of each of the three aforementioned cities
  • Reviewing the piloting of UN-Habitat’s ecosystem-based adaptation tool (work package 3, above) in each of the three aforementioned cities
  • Designing and conducting one virtual participatory workshop on vulnerability mapping and spatial projection with governmental departments and selected residents of each of the aforementioned cities
  • Contributing to the production of a multidimensional atlas led by consultant (separate TOR) and UN-Habitat staff
  • Proposing spatial projection scenarios for the aforementioned cities
  • Recommending scale-appropriate, vulnerability-mitigating interventions available to cities at large and indicating which the aforementioned cities may undertake over different time periods and under different spatial expansion scenarios
  • Presenting above findings at virtual global expert group meeting.

Qualification:

  • A master’s or advanced degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, or related field is required.’A first level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in urban or landscape planning or architecture is required.
  • Experience leading complex metropolitan-scale landscape mapping exercises is highly desirable.
  • Experience on multidisciplinary resilience projects is highly desirable. Experience in the developing world is desirable.
