The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations programme for human settlements and sustainable urban development. It was established in 1978 as an outcome of the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat I) held in Vancouver, Canada, in 1976. UN-Habitat maintains its headquarters at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Kenya. It is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The mandate of UN-Habitat derives from the Habitat Agenda, adopted by the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1996.

UN-Habitat Job Vacancy 2022
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Head of Office, UN-Habitat Country Office in Spain, the Advocacy, Outreach and Partnerships Consultant will also work in close collaboration with related Global Solutions Division, the WUF Coordination Office and other Divisions and Units in charge of Advocacy, Outreach and the Communications. His/her tasks will be developed under the framework of the project´s work plans that includes the following activities:
- Planning, organization and development of the Expert Group Meeting for the Special Session on National Urban Forums to be held at WUF11;
- Organization of advocacy and awareness events included in the work plan of both projects by identifying relevant topics and speakers, and develop the events work plan.
- In order to provide technical support for the execution of the activities above mentioned, the consultant will be required to:
- Develop a concept note and timeline for each activity to be organized, as well as corresponding final reports.
- Develop, establish and maintain active relationship/partnership with strategic multi-stakeholders by presenting partnerships proposals, including all levels of government, private sector, academia and civil society: preparation of substantive documents, concept notes, reports, etc.
- Coordinate and develop strategic outreach initiatives for increasing awareness towards the World Urban Forum
- Ensure that communications, in all formats, are developed and executed at an exemplary level, and consistent in messaging and brand standards.
- Identify key organizations to propose initiatives, products and activities that can achieve higher visibility through media support.
- Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories.
- Ensure that Urban October messages and events (World Habitat Day and World Cities Day) are aligned with the overall strategy within the communications materials and events developed in Spain
Qualification:
- A first university degree in Social Science, Communications, International Relations or related fields is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience at national and international level in public relations, communications and advocacy is required.
