UNEP Job Vacancy 2022
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Regional Sub Programme Coordinator, the consultant will perform the following tasks:
- Review the existing land and ecosystem restoration strategies, action plans and initiatives in Africa in general, and SADC region in specific, to identify their coverage of biodiversity outcomes, coordination, monitoring mechanisms, etc.;
- Conduct an in-depth review of the Madagascar AFR100 commitments, restoration national action plan and other restoration initiatives, and propose how to strengthen biodiversity outcomes through a participatory process involving key stakeholders in Madagascar including by aligning/linking the restoration initiatives to the current priorities of the Government of Madagascar and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Madagascar;
- Prepare a regional and sample country (Madagascar) guidance note on how to enhance biodiversity outcomes in ecosystem restoration efforts under the Pan-African Action Agenda on Ecosystem Restoration, taking into consideration ongoing ecosystem restoration efforts as well as efforts that may be designed in the future;
- Review the AUDA Portal for monitoring ecosystem restoration vs a vis the reporting/monitoring mechanisms by the ongoing ecosystem restoration initiatives and recommend how the AUDA portal could be strengthened to provide a coordinated overview of the impact/progress of ecosystem restoration efforts in Africa;
- Prepare a policy brief on how the Pan-Africa Action Agenda on Ecosystem Restoration can be mainstreamed into national SDGs efforts, the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks, for enhancing biodiversity outcomes in the ongoing and future ecosystem restoration initiatives including by articulating.

Qualification:
- An advanced university degree in environmental science, environmental policy, ecology, or natural sciences is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years work experience in conducting research, policy reviews, environmental planning, ecosystem restoration etc. Demonstrated evidence of report writing skills through published works. Experience working with member states in Africa. First-hand experience working in Madagascar is mandatory.
