Duties and Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the Head of Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Programmes (Programme Management Officer) and in close consultation with the Communication Support Officer, the Consultant will perform the following tasks aimed at supporting visibility and advocacy of the Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Programmes, including the Better Migration Management Programme, Criminal Investigation Programme for Somalia, Supporting Transformation, Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa, Enhancing Effective Criminal Justice Responses to Trafficking in Persons in Eastern Africa and Supporting the EAPCCO Regional Counter-Terrorism Centre of Excellence:

Description of task:

  • In liaison with the Communication Support Officer and programme managers, identify and initiate new and creative visual communication products – and the graphic design thereof – to enhance the visibility of the regional Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Programmes and its projects;
  • Explore and present conceptual ideas for a cohesive, coherent and creative visual identity and branding of incoming conferences, such as the CT Regional event (still in the planning phase), and a series of Media workshops (still in planning phase);
  • Update the layout of existing communication products;
  • Update the layout of the quarterly electronic TOC/CT newsletter;
  • Design the layout of programme 8 factsheets;
  • Design the layout of a weekly snapshot for a partner (INL) of the Criminal Investigation Program (CIP) of Somalia;
  • Assist with aligning and updating the visual look of the Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Terrorism Programme pages on the ROEA website;
  • Provide graphic design expertise to project partners in the development or update of their respective visual identities as well as updating websites and mentoring as required
  • Ensure that all products, documents, materials and events give appropriate visibility to respective donors, including the correct application of its logos, acknowledgement statement and standard disclaimers;

Qualification:

  • An advanced university degree in graphic design, visual arts, illustration or related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • At least 07 years of professional graphic design experience, including the design and layout of a wide range of publications, IEC materials and infographics is required.;
  • Experience in developing and applying visual identities for programmes and/or campaigns is desirable.
  • Work experience with the Kenyan government and/or an international organization is desirable.
  • Prior experience developing infographics and simple social media graphics is required.
