UNODC Job Vacancy 2022

Specific Tasks: Under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative in the UNODC Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) and the direct supervision of the UNODC ROEA Head of the Criminal Justice Programme, and in close cooperation and consultation with governments, private sector and other partners, the consultant will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct a Rapid assessment of GB-VAWG interventions in the specific counties to identify potential government and civil society partners and target areas.
  • Develop a strategy and workplan for addressing barriers encountered by GB-VAWG survivors during the legal process and secondary victimization by the criminal justice system
  • Conduct awareness raising campaigns on changing mindsets and building resilience in the community – supported by artists, influencers, role models and young parliamentarians
  • Pilot a community-based life skill training and changing mindset initiative in Nairobi, Machakos and Mombasa.
  • Support establishment of a safe house for women and girls through technical support in partnership with national gender taskforces including the technical working group on gender lead by the County Commissioners.
  • Organize a policy-makers workshop on GB-VAWG and community engagement meetings
  • Support the rehabilitation and reintegration of women in prisons especially victims of sexual violence.

Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree in psychology, sociology, international development, international relations, community development or other related discipline is required. A first university degree in combination with two extra years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience with youth, vulnerable groups, work in the prisons and the criminal justice is required.
  • Cross-cultural working experience in the field of community-based programmes is desirable.
  • Experience of networking and forming development/poverty alleviation groups or strategic partnerships is desirable.
