UNODC Job Vacancy 2022
Specific Tasks: Under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative and direct supervision of the Head of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme UNODC ROEA, and within the framework of the UNODC Regional Programme for Eastern Africa (2016-2021) the consultant will perform the following tasks in pursuance of the implementation of the Communication Strategy:
- Raise visibility of PLEAD and its partners as well as highlighting its positive impact on the criminal justice system and on all citizens.
- Coordinate the delivery of identified support services, such as communication, graphic design and layout, illustrations, translation, photography and video and audio production, and update the PLEAD publication master schedule.
- Strengthen the partnership with Criminal Justice actors in the area of communications.
- Provide technical assistance to national partners in the development or update of their respective communication strategies/policies as well as delivery of communication activities, such as sensitisation campaigns around specific interventions, eg plea bargaining and diversion. In this respect mentoring support can be included.
- Update UNODC ROEA social media accounts and website and thus ensure that there is regular content on PLEAD events.
- Identify new and creative ways to enhance the visibility of PLEAD.
- Ensure that all PLEAD products, documents, materials and events give appropriate visibility to the European Union, including the correct application of its emblem, acknowledgement statement and standard disclaimers.
- Support communications for specific events and campaigns, including drafting talking points, press releases and social media and website content.
- Identify case studies that showcase PLEAD interventions that are engaging and motivating.
- Assist with editing and revision of PLEAD documents for publication.
- Maintain and update a digital photo library.
- Develop and foster productive relationship with colleagues with both national and international partners (the European Union and UNDP) to facilitate harmonized PLEAD communication and key messages as well as optimizing available communication opportunities.

Qualification:
- An advanced degree in journalism, communications or a related field is required. A first-level university degree or equivalent, with an additional two years of relevant working experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in communications is required.
- Experience in supporting justice reform or justice sector support programs is required.
- Experience in working with senior government officials in sensitive areas is desirable.
- Experience within an International Organization or the United Nations system is desirable.
- Working experience in programmes funded by the European Union is desirable.
