In May 1963, 32 Heads of independent African States met in Addis Ababa Ethiopia to sign the Charter creating Africa’s first post-independence continental institution, The Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The OAU was the manifestation of the pan-African vision for an Africa that was united, free and in control of its own destiny and this was solemnised in the OAU Charter in which the founding fathers recognised that freedom, equality, justice and dignity were essential objectives for the achievement of the legitimate aspirations of the African peoples and that there was a need to promote understanding among Africa’s peoples and foster cooperation among African states in response to the aspirations of Africans for brother-hood and solidarity, in a larger unity transcending ethnic and national Differences. The guiding philosophy was that of Pan-Africanism which centred on African socialism and promoted African unity, the communal characteristic and practices of African communities, and a drive to embrace Africa’s culture and common heritage.

AU Job Vacancy 2023
Responsibilities:
- Develop and operationalize Environmental and Social safeguards policy and procedure for Africa CDC.
- Develop, and update the E&S tools, manuals and Templates
- Monitor changing laws, regulations and corporate directives relating to E&S and update the relevant documentation.
- Conduct environmental and social due diligence; and monitor the Africa CDC’s environmental and social performance.
- Support the development of SOPs and contribute to quality assurance systems, establishing guidelines and surveillance mechanisms
- Track Project activities that could have downstream E&S impacts and implement them in compliance with the WB TA advisory note;
- Study ToRs prepared for the Project activities and contribute for E&S input for ESF ESS compliance
- Review all materials related to project environmental and social impacts and hazards, conduct an E&S appraisal of all prospective projects, as well as the ongoing supervision of E&S performance of the World Bank projects in compliance with the policies and procedures.
- Prepare and review reports on the E&S issues identified and the corresponding actions recommended for the projects/Africa CDC.
- Implement the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) for the project in close coordination with relevant teams and stakeholders.

Qualification & Experience:

- Experience in conducting environmental and social impact assessments and developing environmental and social safeguard plans.
