AFDB Job Vacancy 2022
MAIN ACTIVITIES AND DELIVERABLES: Under the overall direction of the Director General, RDNG, technical supervision of the Director, AHGC and the day-to-day supervision of their designated representative, the Consultant Gender Expert will mainly carry out the following activities:
- Collaborate with program and project managers to propose the categorization of projects within the framework of the Gender Marker System.
- Participate in operational missions and the drafting of project documents in order to promote the implementation of the Bank’s Gender Strategy.
- Work with gender specialists and project managers to develop innovative approaches to autonomous projects for integration of women into the development process, and projects with components and committed budgets relating to the promotion of gender equality.
- Assess the potential impact of proposed projects on gender equality and propose measures to reduce gender inequalities.
- Contribute to the development of performance indicators for monitoring the impact of projects and programs.
- Act as a peer reviewer of new operations to improve the quality of gender mainstreaming.
- Support and participate in project supervision missions, mid-term reviews and project completion missions with a view to enhance gender mainstreaming implementation and results tracking.
- Collaborate with Country Economists to contribute to country portfolio reviews and improve Country Strategy Papers with regard to gender mainstreaming.
- Contribute to the development of gender profiles and country diagnostic notes.
- Participate in Country Team meetings, to ensure that the gender dimension is taken into account.
- Contribute to the activities of other Departments as needed; and
- Foster network and partnerships with other development partners with objective to solicit co-financing and technical assistance to build synergies and bring to scale the development impact of Bank financed projects on gender equality.
Qualification & Experience:
- Hold a Masters degree or equivalent in gender studies, sociology, economics, rural development, social development, social studies, or related fields.
- Have at least seven (7) years of professional experience in the areas of gender analysis and advocacy; evaluation of the impacts on the promotion of gender equality and/or design/implementation of projects to promote gender equality and development projects.
- Have a sound understanding of regional social issues, knowledge of the practices of development agencies of the main bilateral and multilateral partners would be an advantage.
- Be able to work independently and in teams.
- Demonstrate creativity and innovation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and a working knowledge of French.
