Job Purpose: The ILO seeks to recruit a National Project Officer- Gender (NOA) to support the implementation of the project on Elevating Women’s Participation in the Workplace in West Africa, funded by the US Department of Labour’s Bureau of International Labour Affairs (ILAB). The position will be located in the ILO Abuja Office, which maintains overall responsibility for the ILO’s presence and activities in four Anglophone Countries of West Africa: Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. It also serves as the liaison office for Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It supports its constituents in defining programme priorities, activities, monitoring, and overall programme delivery.

The National Project Officer- Gender will support the implementation of the project on Elevating Women’s Participation in the Workplace in West Africa by providing technical and programmatic support on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Description of Duties:

  • Provide direct technical assistance and guidance on women’s economic empowerment to the program and its delivery partners.
  • Support the development of tools, systems, processes and approaches that continuously improve technical excellence and impact in the area of transformative approaches for integration of gender across programmes
  • Lead, coordinate, support, and/or conduct gender and power analyses, effectiveness and efficacy studies, appraisal, evaluation and needs assessments as required by the project.
  • Assist with quantitative/qualitative assessments in targeted communities to assess effectiveness of interventions and impact.
  • Support project team to understand the role of gender equality and women’s empowerment for the Program impact groups.
  • Work closely with other project team to integrate gender across all Project components.
  • Participate in the preparation and conduct of technical training, conferences, seminars, workshops and consultative meetings, with regular missions to project sites independently or accompanying others as delegate by the Project Manager
  • Actively contribute to the programme’s monitoring and evaluation strategy, research agenda and knowledge management systems with a particular focus on gender
  • Facilitate and support a strong learning and knowledge sharing community around gender-transformative practices amongst delivery partners.
  • Represent work being done in gender-transformation and women’s economic empowerment under the Program in relevant internal and external forums.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties requested by the Supervisor.

Qualification:

  • First-level university degree in social sciences, international studies, or a related field with a focus on gender.

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of professional experience working on GBVH, gender equality, and women’s empowerment issues.
  • Proven success in providing direct technical assistance and programmatic support in gender equality and women’s empowerment.
  • Proven success in supporting the development of tools, systems, processes, and approaches that integrate gender across programs.
  • Proven success in supporting others in learning and understanding GBVH and gender equity and equality.
  • Proven success in advancing gender equity, equality, and women’s economic empowerment in the world of work.
  • Experience working in West Africa.
