Save the Children Job Vacancy 2024

Role Purpose: Save the Children, in partnership with Tearfund, War Child Holland (WCH), Coalition for Humanity (CH), Widows and Orphans Charitable Organization (WOCO) is implementing a cross sectoral intervention programme aimed at strengthening local governance and resilience in South Sudan to contribute to local community peace and resilience in South Sudan, responding to the priorities and focus areas of Upper Nile, Unity and Jonglei states. The intervention is aligned with South Sudan EU MIP priority areas of Green & Resilient Economy and Good Governance, Peace, and rule of law for a fairer society. Outlining the need for a more ‘bottom-up approach’, and that by building the capacities of and implementing jointly with national NGOs and CSOs to secure institutional legitimacy of the interventions at subnational level, build local ownership, and increase the sustainability of interventions. The programme features a strong focus on strengthening ownership of local structures and actors in line with DRA partners’ and SCI Localisation ambition. It addresses cross-cutting issues, including Women & Youth Empowerment, Human Rights, Gender and Age equality and mainstreaming, and climate-smart programming. The Consortium Manager will lead the Consortium Management Unit (CMU) and is responsible for ensuring overall technical and operational oversight of the Action and serves as the primary point of contact for the EU delegation and other stakeholders. The Consortium Manager will be supported by a Livelihoods & Resilience Technical Expert and a small team of support functions (MEAL & Finance). The Consortium Manager will coordinate with the CMU to ensure that EU requirements (e.g., monitoring and reporting, financial management) are met and the different technical approaches and implementation methodologies remain consistent, sound and context relevant throughout the project and across its locations. The position will be responsible for disseminating learning from implementation amongst relevant stakeholders in the ecosystem. The Consortium Manager reports to the Deputy Operations Director but will work closely with other members of Save the children and other support functions.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential:

  • Multiple years of experience of working internationally/Nationally in humanitarian programmes
  • Education to BSc/BA/BEng level in a relevant subject or equivalent field
  • Significant experience of undertaking multi-sectoral and governance/peacebuilding related role in a humanitarian context
  • Previous experience of managing a team and managing projects
  • Experience of, and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Experience in managing external partners in multi-sectoral consortium Programming implementation.
  • Demonstrated strong monitoring and evaluation skills, including planning/participating in evaluations.
  • Experience of training and capacity building of programme managers and partners
  • Some experience of representation and ability to represent SC effectively in external forums.
  • Knowledge of institutional donors and experience of developing proposals
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.

Desirable:

  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts.

  • Experience in both implementation and design desirable
  • Experience with beneficiary communications desirable
