UNMISS Job Vacancy 2022

Org. Setting and Reporting: This position is located in the Rule of Law Advisory Section (RoLAS) of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) in the duty station of Juba. The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Officer will report to the P4 Security Sector Reform Officer for operational tasks and to the P5 Senior Security Sector Reform Officer and Chief, RoLAS for strategic guidance. This position contributes to the formulation of overall policies, procedures, objectives, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of DDR and CVR programs, operations and other related activities throughout South Sudan.

Eligibility Criteria

Education:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in security studies, political science, social sciences, management, international economics, international relations, law, development or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years with a master’s degree or seven (7) years with a bachelor’s degree of progressively responsible experience in community violence reduction (CVR) and disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) or a related area in a peacekeeping context is required.
  • Experience working on small arms control, conflict/post-conflict crisis management, socio-economic recovery, as well as international affairs such as peace-building operations, development programmes or related areas is desirable.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Fluency in Arabic (oral and written) is desirable.
