Task description
- Produce media readout on political, security, economic and social issues/ development and select relevant editorial/comments by prominent South Sudanese writers or journalists and intellectuals.
- Contribute and produce various information materials aiming at promoting the mission’s role and visibility and keeping the mission’s components informed.
- Assist in developing and organizing monthly training workshops to local journalists to help improve their professional capacities.
- Assist on monthly/regular organization of press conference, interviews, and background briefings with the local and international press; by the mission’s Spokespersons or Director of Communication and Public Information, Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) and other visiting UN officials.
- Distribute News Bulletins, press releases, press statements and other relevant information material to the media.
- Act as a focal person in providing information about UNMISS Mandate in South Sudan to local or foreign Journalists.
- Write impartial and independent news stories on UNMISS activities, etc.
- Maintain and update contact with the media…
- Media and hate speech monitoring on a daily basis.
- Preparing daily media updates for Mission leadership and key stakeholders (Funds, Programs and Agencies) for UN system wide distribution.
- Identifying critical issues and preparing thematic media analysis on a regular basis for Mission leadership in order to facilitate decision making.
- Organizing the weekly press briefing, preparing spokesperson talking points, preparing press information kits, media advisories and transcript writing and distribution for accurate media coverage.
- Preparing generic press information kits capturing UNMISS information and coverage of key visits such as the UN Security Council and other legislative bodies.
- Facilitating media for requests for interviews, media visits (to and within South Sudan) and other inquiries.
- Preparing and sending out Public Information products such as weekly updates, press briefing transcripts, media monitoring reports, press releases, media advisories and any other PIO product to relevant recipients.
- Performing other duties as assigned by CPI Section Chief and Spokesperson.
Eligibility Criteria
Required education level:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Public Relations and Mass Communication, Journalism, Event management, public relations, graphic design, website management, broadcasting or relevant disciplines.
Required experience:
- 5 years of experience in event management, public relations, graphic design, and website management/design, broadcasting or relevant disciplines.
- Strong and proven knowledge of graphic design software, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Ability to operate digital recording Equipment.
- Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in PowerPoint and various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and other IT applications and office technology equipment.
Languages:
- English, Level: Fluent, Required
- Arabic, Level: Fluent, Desirable
